Technical Indexing Fix

Your pages exist. Google is not showing them. This is the one time job that finds out why and fixes it, for $325.

The Technical Indexing Fix is a one time pass that makes Google able to read, understand and show your website. Canonical tags, the .htaccess file, HTTPS and www redirects, duplicate page cleanup, your sitemap, plus page titles, meta descriptions and image alt text. $325, fixed, agreed before I start.

The problem this actually solves

Almost every small business website I look at has the same shape of problem, and it is never the thing the owner expects. They think the design is wrong, or that they need to write more, or that they need to pay somebody monthly forever. Usually none of that is true. Usually the site is fine and Google simply cannot tell which version of it is real.

Here is what that means in practice. Your website can answer at several different addresses at once. With www and without. With https and without. With /index.html on the end and without. To you those all look like the same page, because they open the same thing. To Google they are four different pages with identical content, and Google has to pick one to show. If nothing on your site tells it which one is real, it picks for you, and it frequently picks wrong. I have seen it choose the insecure www version of a client site and quietly ignore everything else.

The result is a site that looks perfect to its owner and is close to invisible in search. You can check this yourself in about ten seconds. Type site:yourdomain.com into Google and count what comes back. If the number is smaller than the number of pages you built, the missing ones are not being seen by anybody.

The second half of the problem is smaller but adds up. Your page titles and the descriptions underneath them are what a person actually reads in the search results before deciding whether to click. Most small business sites either leave those on the builder default, or use the same one on every page. So even when Google does show you, the listing gives somebody no reason to pick you over the shop above you.

What is included

Six things, all of them on your site, none of them requiring you to do anything except hand over a login once.

Canonical tags. A single line on each page telling Google which address is the real one. This is the fix for the four-versions problem above, and it is the single most common thing missing on the sites I audit.

The .htaccess file. The server level rules that force one version of your site and quietly send everything else to it. Every docroot needs its own. An add on domain inherits nothing usable, which is how four client sites of mine ended up with none at all.

HTTPS and www redirects. So there is one address, it is secure, and every other spelling of it lands there instead of competing with it.

Duplicate page cleanup. Including the files nobody thinks about. Old backups left behind by a previous developer get served by your server as real, live, crawlable pages with no canonical tag on them. Google finds two copies of your homepage and cannot tell which is the original. I found this across several sites in July and it takes about ten minutes to fix once you know to look for it.

Your sitemap. Present, valid, listing the pages you actually have, and submitted so Google knows to read it.

Page titles, meta descriptions and image alt text. Unique per page, written for a person deciding whether to click, not stuffed with keywords. This is the part that changes how your listing reads once Google does show it.

Who this is forYou have a real website with real pages, and a site: search returns fewer results than you built. Or your site answers at several different addresses and you do not know which one Google treats as the real one. This is for a business whose pages exist and cannot be found.

What is not included

So there are no surprises, and so you do not buy something you do not need.

How it works

Within 24 hours of buying, you get a report. I run the checks from outside, which needs no permission from you at all, and write down exactly what I find: how many of your pages Google has indexed, which addresses your site answers on, what your canonical tags say, whether your sitemap is reachable, and which titles and descriptions are missing or duplicated. That report also records a dated baseline, so that later there is an honest before and after rather than my word for it.

Then we talk for 30 minutes. I walk you through what I found and we sort out access to your hosting, because I cannot change a file on a server I cannot reach. Bring your hosting or domain login if you have it. If you do not know where it lives, that is normal and we will work it out.

Then I do the work and send a before and after. Every number measured on the day you bought and measured again when I am done.

What I cannot promise you

I cannot promise you a ranking position. Anybody who guarantees page one is either lying or planning to rank you for a phrase nobody searches for. What I can do is remove every technical reason Google has to ignore you, which is a different thing and an honest one.

I also cannot fix a business problem with a technical fix. If your reviews are bad or your phone goes to voicemail during business hours, being easier to find will not help you much. I will tell you that before I take your money rather than after.

Common questions

Is this different from the free check on your site?

Yes. The free check tells you whether you have a problem. This finds the cause and fixes it. Plenty of people run the free check, see that Google has indexed three of their eleven pages, and still have no idea why. That why is what you are buying.

Do you need access to my website?

For the diagnosis, no. I can see almost everything from outside, which is why you get the report within 24 hours. For the fix itself, yes, I need your hosting login. We sort that out on the call.

How long does it take?

The report is with you within 24 hours. The fix itself is usually done the same day I get access. Then Google has to come back and re-read your site, and that part is not up to either of us. New pages typically start appearing in Search Console within one to two weeks.

Will this put me at the top of Google?

No, and anybody who says otherwise is guessing. This removes the reasons Google is ignoring your pages. Being visible is a requirement for ranking, not the same thing as ranking.

What if you look and my site is already fine?

You still get the report, and it will say so, in writing, with the reasoning. If your foundation is solid then your problem is somewhere else and I will tell you where I think it is. That is a real answer and it is what you paid for.

Do I need the other three services as well?

Probably not all at once. This one is the biggest lever because nothing else matters if Google cannot read your site. Start here, see what it moves, and buy the rest only if you still need it.

Where to go next

Not sure this is the right one? The overview page explains how the four pieces fit together, and has a free ten minute check you can run on your own business before you spend anything. If you want all four, the full Search Visibility Setup is $750 rather than $970 separately.
