Google Business Profile Optimization

The listing customers see before they ever reach your website. One time job, $225.

The Google Business Profile Optimization is a one time pass on the listing that shows up in Google Maps and in the local results. Primary and secondary categories, the business description, your service area, hours, photos, attributes, the services list and seeded questions and answers. $225, fixed, agreed before I start.

The problem this actually solves

For a local business, the profile is usually working harder than the website and getting less attention than anything else. Somebody searches for a plumber near them, Google shows three listings on a map above every website on the page, and whichever of those three looks most complete gets the call. That is the whole decision, and it happens before anybody visits a website at all.

Almost every profile I look at was set up once, years ago, by whoever was standing there. The category is close but wrong. A detail shop is filed under car wash. A taqueria is filed under restaurant when it could be filed under Mexican restaurant. Those compete for different searches, and Google uses the category to decide which searches you are even considered for. Getting it wrong does not make you rank badly. It makes you invisible for the thing you actually sell.

Then the rest goes stale. Two photos from the year it opened. An empty services list, so nothing on the profile tells Google what you do. Hours that were right before you changed them. Questions from real customers sitting unanswered, which anyone can see. None of it is dramatic on its own and all of it adds up to a listing that looks less alive than the shop next door.

The part worth being honest about is that this does not replace your website. Your profile, your website and your reviews work together, and each one carries some of the weight. The profile is what a person sees first. The website is what convinces them and what you actually control. This service fixes the first one.

What is included

Everything below is on your listing, not on your site, and none of it needs anything from you except manager access once.

Primary and secondary categories. The primary category is the highest leverage field on the entire profile. I check what you are set to, what you actually sell, and what the shops ranking above you are using, then set the closest real category Google offers and add the secondary ones that apply.

The business description. Written for a person deciding whether to call, not stuffed with the name of every city within thirty miles.

Service area. Set to where you will actually travel, which matters more than most owners expect for anyone who goes to the customer rather than the customer coming to them.

Hours, including special hours. Regular hours, holiday hours, and the closures people will otherwise turn up for.

Photos. I count what is there, tell you what is missing, what looks dated, and give you a short list of what to shoot with a phone. I cannot take the photos for you and I will not use stock, because Google shows them next to your name.

Attributes and the services list. The services list is where the specifics live that the category cannot carry. An empty one tells Google nothing about what you sell.

Seeded questions and answers. The questions you get asked on the phone all day, answered publicly, so the answer is already there before anybody has to ask.

Who this is for
Your customers find you by searching near me or by looking at a map. You have a profile, but nobody has touched the category, the services list or the photos since it was created. Plumbers, detailers, restaurants, salons, contractors, anybody whose phone rings because of the map.

How it works

Within 24 hours of buying, you get a report. Almost everything on a Business Profile is public, which makes this the one service where the diagnosis can be genuinely complete before we ever speak. I record what your listing says today: claimed or not, your category, your review count and average, whether anyone replies to them, your photo count, your services list, your hours, and your unanswered questions. Then I look at the three businesses currently ranking above you on the search that matters to you and write down their categories and review counts, which are just as public as yours. That comparison is usually the part that lands, because they are businesses you know.

Then we talk for 30 minutes. I walk you through the report and we sort out manager access, which is the only thing I cannot do without you. If the profile turns out to be unclaimed, or claimed by a marketing company you no longer work with, we deal with that first, because nothing else can happen until it is resolved.

Then I do the work and send a before and after. Category first, because it governs which attributes and services Google even offers you. Then services, description, attributes, photos, and questions. Every edit goes to Google for review. A description usually clears in under ten minutes, categories and services can take up to a day, and I do not report anything as done until it is showing publicly.

What I cannot promise you

I cannot promise you a spot in the map pack. The three results Google shows change based on where the person searching is standing, so there is no single position to promise and anybody quoting you one is quoting you a number they saw from their own desk.

I also cannot fix a review problem with a profile edit. If you are sitting at three stars because of how the last twenty jobs went, a complete listing sends more people to a page that tells them not to call you. I would rather say that before I take your money than after.

Common questions

Do I need a website for this?

No, and that is the point. Your Google Business Profile is a listing Google owns, not a page you host, so it works whether or not you have a site. For a brand new local business it is the single fastest way to become findable. If you later build a site, the profile links to it and the two support each other.

Can you claim my profile if I never set it up?

Claiming is a separate job and I quote it separately, because it is Google's process rather than mine. It can involve a postcard to your address, a video call, or a support queue, and none of that runs on my timeline. If your profile turns out to be unclaimed I will tell you in the report and what it takes to fix it. That is often the most valuable finding on this whole service.

What if a former marketing company controls my listing?

It happens more than you would think, and there is a documented process for requesting ownership from whoever holds it. I will walk you through it. Expect it to take days rather than minutes, and expect Google to be the slow part.

Will this get me into the map pack?

Nobody can promise that, and the three results shown in the map change depending on where the person searching is standing. What a complete profile does is make you eligible and give Google the information it needs to match you to the right searches. Being eligible is a requirement for showing up, not the same thing as showing up.

Can you get me more reviews?

I will not buy them, write them, or solicit fake ones. That risks a suspension on the listing your phone depends on. What I will do is set up the review link so asking a real customer takes them one tap, and show you when to ask.

What if my profile is already in good shape?

Then you get a report saying so, with the reasoning and with the competitor comparison that shows where you actually stand. If the answer is that your listing is fine and the problem is your website, I would rather tell you that than quietly do nothing and bill you.

Where to go next

Not sure this is the right one? The overview page explains how the four pieces fit together, and has a free ten minute check you can run on your own business before you spend anything. If you want all four, the full Search Visibility Setup is $750 rather than $970 separately.
